Unknown Worlds announced today their latest plans in developing an open world underwater exploration and construction game, called Subnautica. The game will create a unique gameplay experience by combining elements of role playing, sandbox, exploration and cinematic.
The project is in the early stages at the moment (first in-game assets are being created, soundscapes are being recorded, etc.), but Unknown Worlds decided to share their project and invited us to take active part in the development process by giving feedbacks and sharing ideas. They plan to release additional concept arts, screenshots, technical details on a weekly basis.
“Subnautica aims to elicit a feeling of experiencing the unknown: A sense that you are exploring an untouched world, not knowing how far, or how deep you can go. The underwater environment will invite you to construct submarines and develop your equipment in order to reach its far flung and diverse corners. Decisions you make about vessel layout, capabilities and structure will affect your ability to navigate hazards and enter the domains of creatures; the likes of which your imagination has never conceived of.”
The topic already raised a lot of questions so here are some extra bits of info:
Q: Will there be a co-op or multiplayer?
A: Currently the focus is on singleplayer but we have been discussing multiplayer from the very beginning, so it’s definitely a possibility, but it’s not being developed right now.
Q: Will it have a first person or third person view?
A: Everything is first-person currently.
Q: Will it have randomly generated areas?
A: Yes. The world is procedurally generated
Q: Crafting system will be a part of Subnautica?
