Stay awhile and listen, Diablo 3 Auction House will be close down. Both systems, gold and real-money auction house, will be closed at the same time on March 18, 2014 cause “despite the benefits of the AH system and the fact that many players around the world use it, it ultimately undermines Diablo’s core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot.”
The new Loot 2.0 system that is under development with Reaper of Souls update is set to deliver a much more rewarding game experience by bringing “less better and more epic items”.
Once the gold and real-money auction house have been shut down, players will still be able to trade with one another using the in-game Trade Window. They are still working on sorting out the technical details about what will happen to posted auctions, items or currency in the Completed tab and Battle.net Balance so more info will be available soon.
This is a very debated move since many players are feeling that this change will only encourage gold farmers and bots to farm for the 3rd party sites that will continue to provide gold and items for those willing to empty their wallets.
Another question arise again, “With no auction house system, what’s the reason behind the always-online mode now?” Blizzard was still refusing an offline mode when they announced Reaper of Souls at Gamescom 2013, but now they may have to reconsider this option.
