During the latest blog post ArenaNet talks about the future plans for Guild Wars 2 until the end of the year. The key features they want to focus on are:

  • Living World and the Two-Week Release Schedule


Their goal is to make Tyria a living world through their two week updates. The updates will also focus on improving the world bosses, refining the current dungeons and fractals, creating world events with a larger and more permanent impact and expanding the number of dynamic events across the world.

  • Progression Advancement


New Skills and Traits: They will regularly add new skills and traits and expand the content and options to earn skill points to encourage players to experience different builds

Champion Rewards: They will improve the champions loot system so each of them will drop a reward box that will contain crafting materials, skill points, unique skins and lodestones


Dungeon Complete Bonus Rewards: Dungeon Completion rewards will be guaranteed and the amount of gold earned will be based on difficulty and length of each dungeon path. If you decide to run the dungeon twice in one day you’ll get the normal reward for completion while the bonus gold will be earned only once per day.


New Crafting Material Rewards: They will add a new set of account-bound crafting materials that you’ll be able to obtain once per day by completing content within a gameplay category like WvW, defeating world bosses, completing dungeons & jumping puzzles and finishing guild missions.


Account Magic Find: The current magic find as an item stat will be removed and a new system will be implemented that will give the improved chance for rare drops to all of your characters. The magic find will be improved by getting special achievements or by using consumables that you can find in game. More details about this system will be released at a later date.

Salvaging Fine and Masterwork Items: When the account magic find system will be implemented there will be a chance to acquire account magic find consumables from salvaging your blues and greens.

  • Crafting Taken to 500


By raising your crafting profession to 500 you will be able to craft ascended weapons and armors. A new tier of crafting materials will be available and can be obtain by combining lower tier materials. This tier will be time-constrained so each item can be made only once per day.

Legendary Gear and Precursors:  You will be able to build precursors items on your way to a legendary. Building your precursors will require a large amount of the new crafting materials, 500 in crafting and a combination of other items earned from completing more specific in game content.


  • PvP Changes and Improvements

World vs. World: They will make several changes to provide more diversity for WvW borderlands maps that will also include the new progression rewards

PvP: They will continue to focus on ensuring the best PvP experience while improving the sense of reward. The new skills and traits will also be available to expand the variety of abilities, builds and tactics used in PvP. Further details will be announced at a later date.


In the end ArenaNet said that they finished the limited beta test in China and they are preparing for the official release through their partner Kong Zhong. For the eastern release a new “level zero” tutorial is being made and new story steps at levels 5 and 10 to teach the new players the core mechanics of Guild Wars 2. Also they will include an improved hint system and a new level-up messaging system.  All of these systems will be added to the western version as well.
